This year seems to have literally flown by…from finishing law school to being Called to the Bar, it’s almost surreal. Anyways, to kickoff our “5 places to visit before 2018”, just in time for you to plan your Christmas rocks, we bring you a new Abuja gem.
VIBE
It is located in Nera hotel, just on the same road as Coco Café but comes with a more gorgeous and up-close view of the lake. It is made out of wood and has likely similarities to a clubhouse but this ain’t no ordinary clubhouse. The structure is also quite big with lots of seating areas. This is a perfect spot for a sunset date (we’ve done half the work for you, now just find a bae in 10 days) or a relaxing day put for one. If you love the outdoors you will definitely love the vibe of this place as everything is very tastefully made to go with the “lakeside view”.
SERVICE
I really didn’t want to have anything bad to say about this spot but…(you’re probably thinking we’ve come with our wahala again, don’t worry it wasn’t that bad) the service was a little below average. The drinks are pretty fast but the food however takes at least 45mins to arrive. After visiting this spot on a busy Friday night and an empty Thursday afternoon, we have come to the conclusion that they are just generally slow. 15 minutes wait for a straw, and an hour’s wait for our food is just kind of ridiculous. However, their very pleasant owner is well involved in the day-to-day running of the restaurant and is willing to listen to complaints.
FOOD
Order 1 – Beef brisket sandwich
Now for someone who doesn’t really like ‘red meat’, (firstly why the hell are you ordering a beef brisket? 🤔) it wasn’t too “beefy” because of the sauce it was marinated in. The bun was really soft and mirrored a brioche bun. All in all, it was shredded beef coated in some barbecue sauce and a side of sweet potato fries. Everything about this was bomb. There were no complaints from everyone except for the slight mix-up where the waiter forgot to ask the Chef not to put any cheese in it. He went back twice to alter the order thinking we said “no chips” and took out the fries but as with everything, third times a charm and he eventually got it right.
Order 2 – The Woodhouse burger
The burger patty was pretty tasty however the bun was quite cold and definitely not as soft as the beef brisket bun which was pretty weird because they looked identical. As far as burgers go this was just a standard beef burger nothing really special about it. Abuja people please let’s come together and request for better burgers…it’s necessary.
Order 3 – The Woodhouse Panini
The Panini was pretty different from other panini’s I’ve had as it was made with plain white sliced bread which was basically toasted until it morphed into a panini. The stuffing was slow cooked braised beef (YUM!) which was very similar to the beef brisket sandwich. This meal also came with a side of fries.
Cocktails
On every occasion we’ve been there, we’ve gotten the strawberry daquiri and we must say it is competing for the top spot in Abuja (hold tight traffic and 355).

Would we return? Well we have been there three times since it was opened so it’s safe to say we definitely will. It’s a good relaxing spot if you just want cocktails, shisha and a view. Maybe next time one of us will be going there on one of those “sunset dates” 😉 (any takers?)
